The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) designated for the establishment of "The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong Scholarship Fund for Mainland Exchange".

In recognition of the Association's generosity, a Cheque Presentation Ceremony for the Donation by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong was held on 22 June 2011 on campus. Officiating guests of the ceremony were Dr. David Wong, JP, CMA President; Mrs. Katherine Ngan, JP, CMA Vice President; Mr. Johnny Yeung, CMA Vice President and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. David Wong said that CMA always paid due attention to the educational development in the territory. He believed that the establishment of this scholarship fund for Mainland exchange will provide opportunities for Hong Kong students to experience educational development and culture in Mainland China while broadening their horizons.

At the ceremony, Professor Albert S.C. Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Association for its generous support. He said that Hong Kong students were encouraged to deepen their understanding of the cultural and economic development of China, with a view to aligning the internationalisation of education and the promotion of national education as pledged by HKSAR government recently. The establishment of this scholarship fund would enable the University to promote Hong Kong students’ whole person development through participating in Mainland exchange activities so as to enhance their competitiveness in the market.

The ceremony was well attended by CMA's representatives and guests, including Mr. Vitus Szeto and Mr. Ho Yuk Wing, CMA Executive Committee Members; Dr. Chiu Chun Bong, MBE, JP; Mr. Joseph Sin; Dr. Yip Kit Chuen; Mr. Eric Lee; Mr. Chan Kim Sing; Dr. Michael Chan, MBE, JP and Dr. Tony Tai, CMA General Committee Members; and representatives from CMA Lady Committee and Youth Committee; and also supporters and friends of HKBU as well as staff and students.
