The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from SML Group designated for a Human Resources Management (HRM) Mentoring Programme at the School of Business.

In recognition of the Group's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony was held on 7 July 2011 on campus. Mr. Ronny Ho, Chief Executive Officer of SML Group; Miss Chloe Suen, Global Head of Human Resources of SML Group, and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, were the officiating guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ronny Ho said that an organisation's success lies in human capital and that SML Group hoped their support towards the HRM Mentoring Programme could form a bridge connecting classroom knowledge with actual working environments for students.

At the ceremony, Professor Albert S.C. Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to SML Group for their continuous support to the University. Professor Chan also praised Mr. Simon Suen, Chairman of SML Group, for his enthusiasm towards education, as well as his staunch support of the development of HKBU. The HRM Mentoring Programme has been a fruitful one since its inception. The number of mentors has increased from 8 to more than 60, and many HKBU alumni who benefitted from the Programme have become mentors themselves. With the support from SML Group, the Programme can further be strengthened and more internship and pre-job training opportunities provided for students.

The ceremony was well attended by more than 100 guests including the representatives from SML Group; HR managers from renowned organisations in Hong Kong; as well as staff and students of HKBU.
