Three Foundation Members and an Alumni Donor appointed Honorary University Fellows

Three HKBU Foundation Members and an Alumni Donor will be conferred as Honorary University Fellows by Hong Kong Baptist University in September 2011, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society and their highly valued support to the University.

Honorary Permanent President - Mr. Cheung On Tak
Mr. Cheung On-tak is a retired entrepreneur who served as a consultant to Man Po Investment Co. Ltd. and On Tak Enterprise Co. Ltd. In 1992, Mr. Cheung established the Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation to give back to society by providing support for education, religion and healthcare projects. In addition to his devotion to philanthropic work and commitment to civic responsibilities, He has actively served various community organisations and industrial and trade associations. A staunch supporter of educational endeavours, Mr. Cheung has given generously to support the teaching and research development of the local tertiary education sector. He also made a donation of HK$10 million to HKBU in 2010 to set up the "Cheung On Tak Chinese Medicine International Awards" to promote the modernisation and internationalisation of Chinese medicine. The donation was also used to set up the "Cheung On Tak Endowment Fund" in support of the overall development of the University as well as the enhancement of quality in both teaching and research.

Honorary Permanent President - Mr. Yu Kwok Chun
Mr. Yu Kwok Chun is currently Chairman of Yue Hwa Group and Chairman and Managing Director of Yue Hwa Chinese Products. Upholding his father's motto of "Giving back to society what has been gained from society", Mr. Yu has made generous contributions to society and spared no effort in striving for the betterment of the community. Over the years, he has supported educational and cultural projects on the Mainland and in Hong Kong and also donated HK$5 million to HKBU in support of the University's Campus Master Plan and the Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies. In addition to his passion for the Motherland, Mr. Yu is enthusiastic in promoting public and community service in Hong Kong and on the Mainland. He has held various positions in governmental committees of the Mainland and Hong Kong. Mr. Yu's outstanding contribution to society won him recognition and accolades. He was granted the honour of being appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1998 as well as presented with the Silver and Gold Bauhinia Star Awards in 1999 and 2006 respectively by the HKSAR Government. He was also named Honorary Citizen of Meizhou.

Honorary Vice-President - Mr. Abraham Chan
A leader in the Chinese medicine industry in Hong Kong, Mr. Abraham Chan has contributed enormously to the modernisation and internationalisation of Chinese medicine. He is currently Chairman and CEO of PuraPharm Group of Companies, and Independent Non-Executive Director of Belle International Holdings Limited. Mr. Chan is actively involved in community service and has held important positions in numerous organisations. He is also an Honorary Court Member of HKBU. Over the years, Mr. Chan has been dedicated to the development of the School of Chinese Medicine of HKBU. As the first Chairman of the School of Chinese Medicine Advisory Committee, Mr. Chan provided tremendous support in laying a steady foundation for the development of the School.

Alumni Donor - Mr. John Fan
Mr. John Fan is an outstanding education innovator. Upon graduation from the English Department of Hong Kong Baptist College in 1974, he embarked on a fruitful journey in the education field and served as the Founding Principal of CMA Secondary School and Lam Tai Fai College.  Over the past decades, Mr. Fan committed himself to the education sector and contributed extensively to the development of education, sports, arts, culture and social services in Hong Kong. He is also dedicated to promoting community development by serving various governmental departments, education and social organisations. He was Chairman of the Advisory Committee, Department of Physical Education, HKBU. Mr. Fan also rendered wise counsel in the planning of the 8th to the 10th China (National) Games, promotion of the Basic Law, and the education constituency's celebration of the return of sovereignty. Mr. Fan was named an unofficial Justice of the Peace and presented with the Bronze Bauhinia Star Award by the HKSAR Government in 1991 and 1999 respectively in appreciation of his contribution to society. He has been a source of deep pride to his alma mater. Mr. Fan's close relationship with school principals and the wider education network continues to bring invaluable wisdom and enormous benefit to the University.
