The University organised the Award Presentation Ceremony cum Award Winners' Lectures of The First Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine on April 30. The winners of the inaugural award were Professor Chen Keji, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of Cardiovascular Center, Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; and Professor Tommy Cheng, Henry Bronson Professor of Pharmacology at Yale University and Chairman of the Consortium for the Globalization of Chinese medicine. The Ceremony was officiated by Mr. Cheung On Tak, Founder of the Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation; Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court; and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor. Following the ceremony were lectures delivered by the winners to an audience of nearly 300 participants, including members of the HKBU Foundation, representatives from the Chinese medicine sector, faculty members and students from local universities. The Award was set up in 2011 with a donation of HK$6 million from the Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation. The first of its kind in Hong Kong, the Award will be presented to scientists and scholars who have made groundbreaking achievements in advancing the internationalisation of Chinese medicine and in the field of Chinese medicine research. Conferred every two years, the Award has a total monetary prize of HK$500,000. |
