Amway Organic Farming at Primary Schools in 18 Districts - Organic Harvest Carnival
05 July 2012

HKBU organised an Organic Harvest Carnival, which is the culmination of the scheme entitled "Amway Organic Farming at Primary Schools in 18 Districts", on campus on 5 July 2012 and held a cheque presentation ceremony in recognition of Amway Hong Kong Limited's generous support for the University over the years. Amway Hong Kong Limited, Honorary President of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, is a staunch supporter of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre of HKBU. The cumulative donation made by Amway to the University since 2007 amounts to HK$2.6 million. It has offered unstinting support to various projects on the promotion of green and organic living, such as "Carbon Minus Family Programme", "Organic Green Health Run", "Organic Day", "Organic Farming at Primary Schools", etc.

Officiating at the Carnival were Mrs. Angela Keung, Vice-President of Sales, Amway Great China Region; Mr. Chan Chi Chiu, Senior Crop Development Officer of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; and Professor Jonathan Wong, MH, Director of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre. The Carnival was joined by around 200 principals, teachers, students and parents from the ten participating primary schools as well as members of the University community.

In his speech, Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Amway Hong Kong Limited for its generous support to the University and the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre. He said that the organic farms developed in different schools facilitated the promotion of the green culture at school and contributed to carbon reduction in the community. The scheme also helped raise the awareness among students of the importance of protecting the environment.

Before the Carnival, Professor Chan hosted a lunch for the officiating guests and the representatives from Amway at Shiu Pong Hall, and the attendees exchanged views on the development of the University's green projects. The HKBU representatives attending the lunch and the cheque presentation ceremony included Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
