The University has recently received a collection of antiques and craftworks from Mr. Cheung On Tak, Founder of Cheung On Tak Charity Foundation, for exhibition and auction. The funds raised from the auction will be donated to the University in support of the "Cheung On Tak International Award for Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Medicine", which was established to promote the internationalisation and modernisation of Chinese medicine. The Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition of Mr. Cheung On Tak's Collection was held on 12 September 2012. Officiating guests were Mr. Cheung On Tak, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rick W.K. Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development), as well as Mr. Li Haipeng, University Librarian. The Exhibition is currently held until 31 October 2012 at the Au Shue Hung Memorial Library and is open to the public. For details, please visit the Library's website. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Cheung On Tak for giving more than 50 pieces from his collection of antiques and craftworks for our exhibition and auction. He also thanked Mr. Cheung and his family for their presence at the Opening Ceremony. He commended Mr. Cheung, a successful industrialist, for his devotion to education and charitable work. He said the University was very grateful to be able to benefit from the longstanding support from Mr. Cheung as our like-minded educational partner. The ceremony was well-attended by Mr. Cheung's son, Mr. Gavin Cheung, as well as supporters and friends of HKBU, such as Mr. Hui Hok Chee, Permanent Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce, and Ms. Rachel Cheng, University Librarian of Lingnan University. Mr. William Leung, BBS, JP, Treasurer of the Council and the Court cum Treasurer of the HKBU Foundation, Mr. Christopher K. Lau, Honorary Member of the Court, as well as staff and students of the University also attended the Ceremony. |
