Dr. Ronald Lu & Partners, led by Dr. Ronald Lu, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, in collaboration with Bing Thom Architects, has won a design competition for the Xiqu Centre, one of the landmark cultural venues for the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD). In the announcement of the WKCD Authority, it said that the design with a traditional Chinese lantern theme corresponds best with WKCD as a whole among the five designs submitted. The Xiqu Centre will provide a platform for the Xiqu communities to interact, develop and produce the finest examples of Cantonese and other Chinese opera performances. It will house two superbly designed auditoria for 1,100 and 400 seats respectively and a traditional Tea House for performances for audiences up to 280, in addition to 2,000 square metres of training and education facilities. Construction will commence late next year and is expected to be completed in 2016. |
