Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak have generously made an aggregate donation of over HK$20 million towards Hong Kong Baptist University over the years.  In 2011, they also donated a residential unit at Cité 33, with a market value of over HK$20 million, for receiving world-class scholars and distinguished visiting laureates.  In recognition of the donors' generosity, the University named the multi-purpose hall inside the newly built Madam Kwok Chung Bo Fun Sports and Cultural Centre on the Shaw Campus the "Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Multi-Purpose Hall".  The Naming Ceremony, officiated by Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 8 March 2013.

The Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Multi-Purpose Hall, with a floor area of 740 m², comprises a 384 m² multi-purpose hall and three activity rooms. It is suitable for holding large-scale conferences, banquets and events with a capacity of 350 persons. Renovations will be conducted in April to install audio facilities.

Being untiring philanthropists, Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak have long demonstrated their genuine concern for society.  Their staunch support towards Hong Kong Baptist University spans over half a century.  Mr. Lau's first financial contribution to the University was made in 1955.  Over the past five decades, Mr. and Mrs. Lau have consistently supported the University, making contributions to the HKBU Development Fund, Student Hostel Project – Alumni Hall, Character Development Fund, Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding Mainland Students, and Campus Ministries.  Mr. and Mrs. Lau are currently Honorary Permanent Presidents of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation. In 2010, Mr. Lau was bestowed with an Honorary University Fellowship by the University.

The ceremony was joined by Mr. David Lau and Ms. Elsie Lau, children of the donors; Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic); Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development); Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Rev. Dr. Ip King Tak, Chaplain; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.  After the ceremony, the guests toured the Multi-Purpose Hall and attended the lunch in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak.
