Six HKBU Foundation members made an appearance on the 2013 list of the richest Chinese people published by Forbes:

• Dr. the Hon. Lee Shau Kee, GBM, Chairman of Lee Shau Kee Foundation Limited, Honorary Permanent President (ranked 2nd)
• Dr. Lo H.S. Vincent, GBS, JP, Honorary Permanent President (ranked 67th)
• Dr. William K. Fung, SBS, JP, Director, and Dr. the Hon. Victor K. Fung, GBM, GBS, Chairman of Victor and William Fung Foundation Limited, Honorary President (ranked 70th and 82nd respectively)
• Mr. Zhu Gong Shan, Executive Director, Chairman and CEO of GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited, Honorary President (ranked 124th)
• Dr. Albert Yeung, Chairman of Emperor Foundation Limited, Senior Member (ranked 172nd)

Mr. Merle Hinrich, founder of Hinrich Foundation Limited, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, and Executive Chairman of Global Sources Limited, delivered a talk on "Education, Leadership and Career Development" for the International Media Salon organised by the Department of Journalism on 10 April 2013. In the talk, Mr. Hinrich shared his views on successful leadership and career development with students. Among the traits that come with leadership, he stressed the importance of communication skills – from presenting data to understanding the audiences of a business. The talk was well received by students who raised numerous questions and received inspiring answers from Mr. Hinrich. Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement, also attended the talk.

 

Mr. Stanley C.H. Lau, BBS, MH, JP and Mr. Irons W.W. Sze, JP, Members of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, were appointed as Employer Representatives of the Standard Working Hours Committee. The appointment will take effect from 9 April 2013 for a term of three years. Mr. Lau is currently Managing Director of Renley Watch Manufacturing Company Limited while Mr. Sze is currently Executive Director of Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited.

 

Dr. Moses M.C. Cheng, GBS, OBE, JP, Member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, was appointed as Chair of the Committee on Free Kindergarten Education. The appointment will take effect from 8 April 2013 for a term of two years.

Dr. Cheng was also re-appointed as Chairman of the Education Commission for a term of two years with effect from 1 May 2013. He is currently Senior Partner of P.C. Woo & Co.

 

Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors, Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, recently hosted a banquet in celebration of the hundredth day of his first grandson. The banquet was well attended by distinguished guests, including Mr. William W.C. Leung, BBS, JP, Treasurer of the Board of Governors, Chairman of the Alumni Committee and Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
