The University recently received a generous donation of HK$500,000 from the Kowloon Chamber of Commerce (KCC) in support of the School of Chinese Medicine to organise a forum to promote exchange among China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau for the development of Chinese medicine. In recognition of the donor's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Mr. Conrad Lee, Chairman of KCC; Mr. Lee Kwong Lam, BBS, MH, JP and Mr. Cheng Po Wo, Vice-Chairmen of KCC; Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Bian Zhao Xiang, Associate Vice-President and Director of the Clinical Division of the School of Chinese Medicine; and Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, was held on 13 December 2013.

Founded in 1938, KCC is a non-profit organisation with the mission to strengthen the ties of the business and commercial sectors both in Hong Kong and overseas, as well as to promote the economic development of Hong Kong. KCC is also devoted to supporting charity and education for the betterment of the community.

In his speech, Mr. Conrad Lee appreciated the rapid development of HKBU, in particular the achievements of the School of Chinese Medicine in recent years. He said KCC has been supportive of education by making contributions to local universities for setting up scholarships and bursaries for students. He welcomed more opportunities to collaborate with HKBU in future.

Professor Albert Chan expressed his gratitude to KCC for its staunch support to HKBU and to its members for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit HKBU. The delegation was briefed on the uniqueness of Whole Person Education at HKBU and the latest developments of the University. Professor Chan hoped that the delegation could gain a better understanding of the University and he looked forward to collaborating with KCC in nurturing talent for the community.

After the ceremony, Professor Allan Chan, Acting Dean of Business, introduced the latest developments of the School of Business to the guests. The delegation then visited the Academy of Film and the School of Chinese Medicine. They were warmly received by Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Mr. Chen Yimin, Senior Lecturer of the Academy of Film; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; and Mrs. Helen Tsang, Head of the Secretariat of the School of Chinese Medicine.
