Professor Jao Tsung-i, GBM, a world-renowned Sinologist and donor of HKBU, was awarded the inaugural University Laureate by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) on 10 January 2014, in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to scholarly research, art and education. Professor Jao is currently Honorary Permanent Director of the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology. After the ceremony, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chen Zhi, Acting Director of the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement, were invited to join the dinner reception cum celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole of HKU.
