The University previously received a donation pledge of HK$5 million from Ms. Connie Wong, SBS, JP, Managing Director of Wong Sun Hing Limited, in support of the Hong Kong History Project of the Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ACCS) of HKBU.
In recognition of the donor's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony was held on 28 April 2014. Officiating at the ceremony were Ms. Connie Wong; Dr. John Chan and Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Co-Chairmen of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Chow Kai Wing, Director of ACCS; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
The Hong Kong History Project, initiated by ACCS, will compile the comprehensive history of Hong Kong between 1840 and 2013, covering politics, economy, society, development of the New Territories, urban planning, transportation, foreign relations, the military, population, influential figures, culture and customs, etc. It will take three to five years to complete the set of books, which will comprise 18 volumes written in Chinese (about 3 million characters). The publication will be translated into English for overseas scholars and researchers studying the history and society of Hong Kong.
