The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Mrs. Lau Chan So Har, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, on 8 May 2015. She was 87 years old.

Mrs. Lau, together with her husband Mr. Lau Chor Tak, was a longstanding supporter of HKBU. They made their first donation to the University as early as 1955.  In the past six decades, they generously donated more than HK$23 million in support of various endeavours of the University, including the Campus Master Plan, HKBU Development Fund, Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Scholarship Scheme for Outstanding Mainland Students, Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology Development Fund, Character Development Fund, Student Hostel Project, campus ministries, etc. In 2011, they also donated a residential unit, with a market value of more than HK$20 million,  to the University for receiving visiting world-class scholars. In recognition of their unswerving support, the University named a multi-purpose hall on the Shaw Campus the "Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Multi-Purpose Hall", and named the donated apartment the "Mr. and Mrs. Lau Chor Tak Lodge for Distinguished Scholars".

The Foundation conveys its heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Lau's family at this time of bereavement. She will always be remembered for her zealous support and significant contributions to the University's development.
