| Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation Inauguration Ceremony | | 25 March 2009 | | | To celebrate Hong Kong Baptist University's 53th Anniversary, a Founders' Day Reception cum Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation Inauguration Ceremony was held on 25 March 2009 at the InterContinental Hong Kong. Officiating at the ceremony were the Hon. Chief Justice Andrew Li, GBM, Chief Justice, Court of Final Appeal and HKBU Honorary Doctor; the Hon. Mrs. Laura Cha, SBS, JP, Chairman, University Grants Committee; Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court; Professor Ng Ching-Fai, President and Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Ronald Lu and Ir. Peter K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairmen of the Foundation; Professor Ah-Chung Tsoi, Secretary-General of the Foundation and Vice-President (Research and Institutional Advancement), and Members of the Foundation's Board of Governors.
In his welcoming speech, Mr. Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Governors said that the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation will be an important source of support, enabling the University to sustain valuable programmes and implement new projects. The Board of Governors aimed at raising funds amounting HK$155 million for the University's development as a timely gift for our 55th Anniversary in 2011. Mr. Wong continued that the University should aim to build a higher education system which is on par with the best in the world.
Professor Ng Ching-Fai also said that the Foundation embraces the wider community, as well as friends of the University and the alumni who provide HKBU with invaluable support for the growing range of teaching and research activities and development projects.
The Ceremony attracted more than 300 guests including Mr. Michael Suen, GBS, JP, Secretary for Education, Legislators, Government officials, Consuls-General and their representative, HKBU friends and donors, alumni, Court and Council members, Board of Governors members, Foundation members, staff and students.
