To celebrate the conferment of honorary doctoral degrees, the University organised a series of activities entitled "Brilliance of Civilization" to enable the honorary doctors to share their wisdom with the general public. In this connection, Ir Wong Kwok Keung, recipient of honorary degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, delivered a public lecture on "Transformation" on 12 November 2010. During the lecture, Ir Wong shared with the audience how his life was shaped by his perseverance in the pursuit of education and his success in running a family business, as well as his views regarding the recent development of Hong Kong and the Mainland. He encouraged students to work hard and never give up. In his address, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ir Wong for his enthusiasm in sharing his valuable life experience and stimulating insights with members of the University community and friends of the University. Professor Chan commended Ir Wong for his great achievements and substantial contribution to society, highlighting that he would serve as a role model in particular for young people. To express our sincere appreciation, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court, presented a souvenir to Ir Wong for his inspiring and meaningful sharing. The public lecture was a great success and well received by the participants including government officials, political and community leaders, professionals, friends of Ir Wong and the Kum Shing Group, supporters of the University as well as members of the University community. Ir Wong, a distinguished entrepreneur dedicated to community service, is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Kum Shing Group. Since he took over the company from his father in 1985, he has successfully transformed it from a firm with less than 10 employees into a major engineering and construction business with more than 4,000 staff and workers. Ir Wong has earnestly participated in public service and charity work both in Hong Kong and on the Mainland. He is also a staunch and much valued supporter of the University offering unstinting support to our development projects. |
