Visit by The Hong Kong Chinese Importers' & Exporters' Association

Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP, President of The Hong Kong Chinese Importers' & Exporters' Association (HKCIEA), together with more than 30 members of the Association, paid a visit to the University on 12 August 2010. The delegation included, among others, Legislator Mr. Wong Ting Kwong, BBS, JP, Mr. Chong Shing Hum, Mr. Cheung Ming Man, BBS, Vice Presidents of HKCIEA; Mr. Lee Kwong Lam, BBS, Honorary Consultant of HKCIEA; Mr. Michael Hui, MH, Honorary Secretary of HKCIEA; and Mr. Eddy Li, BBS, Mr. Chan Fung Ping, Mr. Chan King, Mr. Raymond Hung, Vice Honorary Secretaries of HKCIEA.

Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, welcomed all the guests from HKCIEA. In his remarks, Professor Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Lee, for his unfailing support to the University and wise counsel regarding the University's developments. Professor Chan wished to explore the feasibility of future collaboration with HKCIEA in order to nurture all-round achievers for the community.

Mr. Lee said that HKCIEA has been established for 56 years with a membership of over 3,000, comprising company and individual members, while some of the members were close partners of the University. Mr. Lee mentioned that the Association agreed with the University's philosophy on Whole Person Education. He expected the visit could bring useful insight between HKCIEA and the University.

The visit began by an introduction of the development of the School of Business by Professor Stephen Cheung, BBS, JP, Dean of Business. The delegation also visited the School of Chinese Medicine and the newly built Communication and Visual Arts (CVA) Building. They also met with Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic); Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation; Professor Zhao Xinshu, Dean of Communication; Dr. Cheuk Pak-tong, Director of the Academy of Film; Professor Jonathan Wong, Director of Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre; Dr. Vivienne Luk, Director of Wing Lung Bank International Institute for Business Development and Institute for Enterprise Development; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; as well as  Ms Carry Yu, General Manager of Institute for the Advancement of Chinese Medicine (IACM) Ltd.

During the visit, Dr. Peter Liao, Founding President of Asian College of Knowledge Management and member of HKCIEA, pledged a donation of HK$150,000 to the University in support of the teaching and research projects and student scholarships / bursaries. The University acknowledged Dr. Liao's generosity.
