The HKBU Foundation records with deepest sorrow the passing of Dr. William Mong, GBS, Founder of Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Limited, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation and Honorary Court Member of HKBU, on 21 July 2010. He was 84 years old.

Dr. Mong was the Chairman and Senior Managing Director of Shun Hing Group. Over the years, Dr. Mong offered keen support to educational, health care, recreational, sports and environmental protection projects in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Since the 1980s, Dr. Mong had been a longstanding supporter of HKBU. Among the numerous public services he was involved, he was a member of One Country Two Systems Research Institute; an appointed member of the Consultative Committee, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference 7th Sichuan Province Committee and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference 2nd Guangdong Province Shenzhen Committee; a Director of Bank of East Asia since 1995; and the Honorary Chairman of Hong Kong Electrical Appliances Manufacturers Association.

The HKBU Foundation conveys our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Mong, Mr. David Mong and the Mong family at this time of bereavement. Dr. Mong will always be remembered for his generous support and contributions to the development of the University.
