"An Enterprising Approach to Serving the Community" by Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP, Honorary Doctorate Degree Recipient 2011

To celebrate the conferment of honorary doctoral degrees, the University organises the "Brilliance of Civilization" programme to enable the honorary doctors to share their wisdom with the general public.  In this connection, Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP, the recipient of honorary degree of Doctor of Social Sciences, delivered a public lecture on "An Enterprising Approach to Serving the Community" on 3 November 2011, during which he shared his experience in managing social services as an enterprise.

In his address, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, praised Mr. Lee as an enthusiastic social entrepreneur who is committed to contributing to the advancement of social service and education. He added that Mr. Lee is a close friend and a staunch supporter of the HKBU community, who shares the University's vision of living up to social responsibility and its belief in Whole Person Education with the University. To express the University's sincere appreciation, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court, presented a souvenir to Mr. Lee for his inspiring and meaningful sharing.

In his lecture, Mr. Lee shared the story of his growth, family, business building and social service work. He said entrepreneurs should keep learning from other people, think out of the box, go beyond their comfort zones, be solution-orientated, work hard, and develop a high emotional quotient.

The public lecture was a great success and well received by the participants with more than 400 guests in attendance. Guests who attended the lecture included community leaders, friends of Mr. Lee and the Wofoo Group, student ambassadors of Wofoo Leadership Network, representatives of social enterprises in Hong Kong, supporters of the University as well as staff and students of the University.Afterwards, the Dinner in Honour of Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP was hosted by Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation, Chairman of the University Council and the Court of HKBU.
