The University recently received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi Ching, JP and their four sons, Mr. Ivis Sze, Mr. Irons Sze, Mr. Ivan Sze and Mr. Jaime Sze, in support of the University's institutional advancement and its Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies. In recognition of the Sze family's generosity, an exhibition gallery on the first and second floor of Wing Lung Bank Building for Business Studies was named Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi Ching Exhibition Gallery.

A Naming Ceremony was held on 16 November 2011. Officiating guests were Mr. Huang Mengfu, Vice-Chairman of China People's Political Consultative Conference, National Committee, and Chairman of Chinese Industry and Commerce; Dr. Sze Chi Ching, JP, Chairman of Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited; Mrs. Sze Chi Ching; Mr. Ivis Sze, Managing Director of Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited; Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation and Chairman of the Council and the Court as well as Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor.

In his address, Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi-ching, JP and their four sons for their support to HKBU. He praised the Sze family for its enthusiasm in public service, especially in education and charitable work on the Mainland and in Hong Kong. Professor Chan also extended his appreciation to Dr. Sze, who is known as "the modern Confucian businessman", for his passion for Chinese culture, poetry and calligraphy as well as his success in both literary and artistic endeavours.

The ceremony was well-attended by guests of Dr. Sze and supporters and friends of HKBU, such as Prof. Pan Yonghua, Director General of Education, Science and Technology, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; Mr. Wang Guohua, Counsellor of the State Council of PRC; Dr. Chan Sui Kau, GBM, GBS, OBE, JP, Executive Chairman of Yangtzekiang Garment Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Dr. K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation and Group Chairman of Kum Shing Group; Dr. Wong Po Yan, CBE, JP, Chairman of United Oversea Enterprises, Ltd.; Dr. Chan Yau Hing, Robin, GBS, LLD, JP, Chairman of Asia Financial Holdings Ltd.; Mr. Yu Kwok Chun, GBS, SBS, JP, Chairman and Managing Director of Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Ltd.; as well as staff and students.

In celebration of the naming of the Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi Ching Exhibition Gallery, the Academy of Visual Arts staged an exhibition "Chinese Calligraphy and Seal Engraving by Dr. Daniel C.K. Lau and Students" from 16 to 28 November at the Gallery. Works by Dr. Sze and Professor Albert Chan as well as those by members of the Calligraphy and Painting Study Association of Hong Kong Fukienese were also exhibited.
