Dr. Ronald Lu & Partners won the Design Competition for Xiqu Centre

Dr. Ronald Lu & Partners, led by Dr. Ronald Lu, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, in collaboration with Bing Thom Architects, has won a design competition for the Xiqu Centre, one of the landmark cultural venues for the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD).

In the announcement of the WKCD Authority, it said that the design with a traditional Chinese lantern theme corresponds best with WKCD as a whole among the five designs submitted. The Xiqu Centre will provide a platform for the Xiqu communities to interact, develop and produce the finest examples of Cantonese and other Chinese opera performances. It will house two superbly designed auditoria for 1,100 and 400 seats respectively and a traditional Tea House for performances for audiences up to 280, in addition to 2,000 square metres of training and education facilities. Construction will commence late next year and is expected to be completed in 2016. 

 



Mr. & Mrs. Brandon Liu hosted dinner for HKBU representatives

Liu, JP (third from right), Managing Director of Liu Hao Tsing Education Foundation Limited, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation; Mrs. Margaret Liu (second from left); and their daughter Miss Gabrielle Liu (first from right) recently hosted a dinner for HKBU representatives to share their wise counsel regarding the University's development. Representatives of the University attending the dinner were: Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor; Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic); Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Bian Zhao Xiang, Associate Vice-President and Director of Clinical Division of School of Chinese Medicine; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement. 

 




The 60th Birthday Banquet of Mr. Frank Lau

Mr. Frank Lau (centre), Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation and Chairman of Sun On-Sunnex International Holdings Limited, hosted a banquet in celebration of his 60th birthday. The banquet was well attended by over a hundred guests, including Dr. John Chan, member of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Mrs. Mabel Chan; as well as Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.

 




Dr. Simon Suen hosted dinner for world-renowned scholars

Hong Kong Baptist University organised an International Symposium on Bronzes and Zhou Civilization recently to bring together numerous world-renowned scholars in Chinese classical learning and Sinology for academic exchange. Dr. Simon Suen, JP, Chairman of SML Group Limited, Honorary Director of Mr. Simon Suen and Mrs. Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute (SHI) and Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, hosted a dinner for the participating scholars after the Symposium. Professor Chen Zhi, Head of Department of Chinese Language and Literature cum Director of SHI, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement, were also invited to join the dinner.
