10 October 2012

The University recently received a donation pledge of HK$5 million from Ms Connie Wong, JP, Managing Director of Wong Sun Hing Limited, in support of the Hong Kong History Project of the Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ACCS) of HKBU.

In recognition of the donor's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Ms Connie Wong and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 10 October 2012.  Guests attending the ceremony included Mr. Lo Chung Hing, Chief Consultant, Operation Committee of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and Honorary Research Fellow of ACCS; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research & Development); Professor Victor Sit, Director and Chair Professor of ACCS; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.  After the ceremony, Professor Chan hosted a lunch for the guests joined by the HKBU representatives.

The Hong Kong History Project, led by Professor Victor Sit, Director of ACCS, will compile the comprehensive history of Hong Kong between 1840 and 2011, covering politics, economy, society, development of the New Territories, urban planning, transportation, foreign relations, the military, population, influential figures, culture and customs, etc.  It will take five to eight years to complete the set of books, which will comprise 14 volumes written in Chinese (about 3 million characters).  The publication will be translated into English for overseas scholars and researchers studying the history and society of Hong Kong.
