Three Foundation Members, an Alumni Donor and a renowned Movie Producer appointed Honorary University Fellows

Three HKBU Foundation Members, an Alumni Donor and a renowned movie producer will be awarded Honorary University Fellowships by Hong Kong Baptist University in September 2012, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society and their highly valued support to the University.

Honorary Permanent President - Mr. Ivis Sze
Mr. Ivis Sze is a highly successful entrepreneur. He is presently Board Director and CEO of Hang Tung Resources Holding Limited of Hong Kong. Under his leadership, the group's diverse businesses now boast a global network of operations. In his youth, following the footsteps of his father Dr. Sze Chi-ching, he helped expand his company's business to the Mainland and later on to other parts of the world. Responding to the calls for reforms and opening up, Mr. Sze actively invested and participated in infrastructure development in the provinces and autonomous regions of the Mainland.

Mr. Sze and the Sze family have made huge contributions to both charity and education programmes. Their contributions to China's reforms and Hong Kong's prosperity have earned them high recognition and esteem among the people as well as the government authorities of both places. Mr. Sze is a member of the 8th to 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Jiangsu Provincial Committee and deputy chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Jinjiang and Shanghai. He has actively participated in the affairs of the country and in charity work, and has often made generous donations. As early as in 1987, he donated $2 million to his hometown Jinjiang to set up an education fund for local teachers, outstanding students and academics, sponsoring their pursuit of further studies abroad. Mr. Sze has also donated to higher education institutions in Hong Kong and on the Mainland, as well as to various charitable organisations, hospitals and the community. In 2009 and 2010, Mr. Sze and his father made a donation to HKBU to support its overall development. Mr. Sze is an Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation.

Honorary President and Member of the Alumni Committee - Ms. Delia Chan Wai Sheung
Ms. Delia Chan Wai-sheung is a successful entrepreneur and a committed educator. She joined the textiles and garment industry after completing a higher diploma in Secretarial and Managerial Studies at the then Hong Kong Baptist College. She went on to found the Famous Horse Garment Factory Limited, Belsen Garment Factory of Taishan City, Southern Dragon Textiles Limited and Guangdong Taishan Textile Industrial Limited with her late husband. She is currently the Executive Director and President of these companies. From 2001 to 2005, Ms. Chan pursued a Bachelor's degree in Health Science (Chinese Medicine) jointly offered by HKBU and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. In 2008, she graduated from the Master of Chinese Medicine programme at HKBU.

Ms. Chan has made significant contributions to the economic and social development of both Hong Kong and the Mainland. Apart from making several donations in support of healthcare and medical services, education, and cultural projects in Hong Kong and the Mainland, Ms. Chan is also personally involved in various public and social service activities. She has funded the building of primary and secondary schools as well as university building in Taishan and provided subsidies to students and set up an education fund and a capital works fund for Wuyi University. One of the Rehabilitation Buildings of the Wuyi Chinese Medicine Hospital was named Lee Chan Wai Sheung Building in recognition of her generous support. In addition, Ms. Chan has also sponsored the Taishan Culture and Art Festival and donated to support the construction of other municipal and public facilities in Jiangmen, including the Wuyi Huaqiao Plaza, bridges, roads and water conservation facilities.

Ms. Chan cares deeply about the development of her alma mater. Since 2008, she has made generous donations to the HKBU Foundation, in support of the Centre for Cancer and Inflammation Research, Campus Development Plan, scholarships and Chinese medicine research. Ms. Chan is an Honorary President and a Member of the Alumni Committee of the HKBU Foundation.

Honorary President - Mr. Lee Yu Leung
Mr. Lee Yu-leung is an inspirational leader who nurtures global talent. Mr. Lee currently serves as Chairman of China Fortune Foundation Limited and China India Fortune Foundation Limited as well as Director of the Norman So WYK (Wah Yan, Kowloon) Development Fund and Director of Asia Consultants International Limited. Graduating from the then Hong Kong Baptist College with a Diploma in Business Management, Mr. Lee began his career in the local financial industry. His first appointment was with Sun Hung Kai Investment Services Limited. Later, he provided strategic investment advice to individual and corporate clients. He has held Directorships in a number of highly reputable securities and listed companies, including Asia Financial (securities) Limited. Mr. Lee was elected Council Member of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and was appointed as a member of the Listing Committee. In 2008, he established the China Fortune Foundation with the goal of developing leadership potential for China as a means towards sustained prosperity. In 2010, Mr. Lee co-founded the China India Fortune Foundation to promote dialogue and strategic collaboration between the world’s two most populous nations and to create socio-economic synergies between India, China, and Hong Kong for generations to follow.

For his contributions, Mr. Lee was honoured with the title of Advisor on Education for Poverty Alleviation of the School of Continuing Education at Tsinghua University. In 2012, the China Fortune Foundation made a generous donation to HKBU to support various projects. A year later, the China India Fortune Foundation also made a pledge to support educational exchange between China and India. Mr. Lee is an Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation.

Alumni Donor - Mr. Ronald Chiu Ying Chun
Mr. Ronald Chiu Ying-chun is a global visionary in broadcast journalism. He is currently Executive Director of i-Cable News Ltd. and i-Cable Sports Ltd. as well as Chairman of the Hong Kong News Executives’ Association and a member of the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Press Council. Mr. Chiu graduated from the then Hong Kong Baptist College with a Diploma in Communication, and joined Commercial Television as a news reporter. Within a few years he was a News Sub-editor and Producer at TVB. In 1991, Mr. Chiu joined Wharf Cable (now i-Cable) as a consultant and when the company was awarded a broadcast license two years later, he was appointed Assistant News Controller. In 2002, Mr Chiu became Executive Director at Cable TV, where he headed the News and Sports Division.

Mr. Chiu is distinguished as a pioneer in the early and successful adoption of new technology. He was one of the first to see the revolutionary potential of live news broadcasts and, in 1992, was part of the team that successfully launched the world's first 24-hour Chinese news channel. In 2002, he launched the first fully digitised operated news centre. His professional service was honoured with a PATER Award and a Gold Medal at the New York Television and Film Festival Awards.

Mr. Chiu returns to his alma mater often, where he acts as a mentor to aspiring journalism students, delivers guest lectures, and contributes his expertise as an advisor on course development. To recognise his contributions, the School of Communication of HKBU presented him with the Distinguished Alumni Communicator Award (Journalism and Media) in 2009.

Renowned Movie Producer - Mr. Ng See Yuen
Mr. Ng See-yuen is a globally-renowned movie producer. He is the Founding President of the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild and current Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers. He joined Shaw Brothers Studio in 1967 as an assistant director and founded the Seasonal Film Corporation in 1973. Mr. Ng directed Anti-Corruption in 1975 which won him recognition in the industry as a master director. He directed and produced a series of films in the genres of martial arts, law and justice, such as Drunken Master and The Unwritten Law which catapulted him to the summit of his career and the status of a mogul of the film industry in Hong Kong. In 1986, Mr. Ng made his name in the US by working with Corey Yuen on No Retreat, No Surrender, which kick-started the trend of kung fu films in Hollywood. He is also one of the pioneers in co-producing with the Mainland. The movies Dragon Inn and The Soong Sisters which he produced are prime examples of successful Mainland-Hong Kong co-productions.

Over the years, Mr. Ng has produced 50 local films and seven international martial arts movies. Ten years ago, he was the first to introduce state-of-the-art UME theatres to the Mainland. In addition, Mr. Ng has also been applauded for his foresight in discovering new talent. Famous names that have worked with him in the early stages of their careers include Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Jean-Claude van Damme and Hark Tsui.

Mr. Ng is a regular face at various events and conferences of the Academy of Film of HKBU's School of Communication, including the "Global Chinese University Student Film and TV Festival". He has also given invaluable guidance to the Academy in course development. In recognition of his contributions to the film industry, Mr. Ng was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 1998 by the HKSAR Government and was appointed Justice of the Peace in 2001.
