Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation Dinner
05 November 2013

The Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation Dinner was held at the Happy Valley Clubhouse of The Hong Kong Jockey Club on 5 November 2013. It provided a joyful occasion to acknowledge members of the Board of Governors, Honorary Trustees, Honorary Permanent Presidents and Honorary Presidents of the HKBU Foundation as well as supporters of the University for their generosity and tremendous support given to the University over the years.

In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation, shared various outstanding academic and research achievements of the University and expressed his deep gratitude to those individuals and organisations that had made financial support towards the University's development. He said, "In this current year, the University has received a number of valuable items donated by enthusiastic individuals for charity auctions, bringing a large amount of funds to the HKBU Foundation. It is encouraging that the fundraising dinner held in October raised more than HK$46 million for the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology."

Mr. Wong mentioned that the HKBU Foundation would be approaching the 5th anniversary of its establishment next year. The Foundation would make further progress by achieving the annual target of raising at least $HK100 million in support of the University's development in all spheres.

Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, said the University established this year the Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, the Changshu Research Institute and the Partner State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis, and would establish the HKBU (Haimen) Institute of Science and Technology. These were all efforts to consolidate the University's research strengths and expand its commitment to serving the community.

Professor Chan extended his appreciation to all members of the Board of Governors, the Entrepreneur Committee and the Alumni Committee for their valuable advice on the University's fundraising strategies and the extension of its support base. He also conveyed his heartfelt thanks to all Foundation members for their generous support for the University over the years.
