The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Dr. Tony Tai (centre), Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd., and Dr. Lo Tai Chin (left), Vice-Chairman of W. Haking Enterprises Ltd. and Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, designated for the Faculty of Science Development Fund to support teaching and research of the Faculty.  In recognition of the donors' generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Dr. Tony Tai, Dr. Lo Tai Chin and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 24 September 2013.

Dr. Lo Tai Chin shared her learning experience with the guests at the ceremony.  She expressed the view that in addition to the necessary facilities and resources, a strong faculty comprising people with professional knowledge and a passion for teaching is prerequisite for quality teaching and learning.  She highly appreciated HKBU's philosophy of Whole Person Education and the quality of teaching at the University.  She hoped that the donation could contribute to the enhancement of teaching and research of the Faculty of Science for nurturing talent for our society.

Professor Albert Chan expressed his sincere gratitude to the donors for their tremendous support to the University.  He also thanked Mrs. Regina Leung, wife of the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, for attending the ceremony.  He hoped that the University could count on the continuous support of the wider community for its development.  To mark this occasion, Professor Chan presented a couplet composed by him as a token of appreciation to the donors.

After the ceremony, Professor Chan hosted a dinner for the guests at Shiu Pong Hall. Other guests included Dr. Connie Chan, Founder and Chief Executive of Tunbow Group; Ms. Wong Ling Ling, MH, Chief Executive Officer of Realway Investment Limited; Ms. Jenny Ng, Director of Lapton Electric & Machinery Limited; Mr. Vincent Poon, General Manager of Techmerge (Shenzhen) Investment Development Co. Ltd.; and Mr. Stone Chu, General Manager of Shenzhen Nanyou Commercial Service Co. Ltd. Representatives from HKBU included Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Tang Tao, Associate Vice-President and Dean of Science; Professor Cheah Kok Wai, Head of the Department of Physics; Professor Jonathan Wong, Director of the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
