The University recently received the precious donation of an 1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen Replica from Dr. Andrew Sia, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, and Mrs. Sia for an exhibition and a charity auction. The net proceeds generated will go to the School of Chinese Medicine Development Fund. In recognition of the donors' generosity, the University held an opening ceremony for the Exhibition of the 1886 Benz Patent Motor-Wagen Replica at the Dr. and Mrs. Sze Chi Ching Exhibition Gallery at the Lam Woo International Conference Centre on 2 May 2013. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Sia and their daughter Miss Tina Sia as well as Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor. After the ceremony, Professor Chan hosted a lunch for the Sia family at Shiu Pong Hall. The HKBU representatives attending the opening and lunch included Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Bian Zhao Xiang, Associate Vice-President and Head of the Clinical Division of the School of Chinese Medicine; Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; and Mrs. Helen Tsang, Head of the Secretariat of the School of Chinese Medicine. The vehicle on display is a faithful replica of the world's first automobile designed by German engineer Carl Benz who created the gas engine-operated automobile and was granted the patent for it in 1886. It is a limited quantity replica which has a very high appreciation and collection value.
