Dr. Wong Kam Shing launches his book "Lotus and the Root"
10 July 2014
Dr. Wong Kam Shing, Director of the HKBU Foundation, will launch a new book entitled "Lotus and the Root" which explores how to maintain harmonious interpersonal relationship in corporate management and daily life drawing on his own experience. He will host an autograph session at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2014 to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 20 July. Dr. Wong is currently Managing Director of Kowloon Watch Group.



Tin Ka Ping Foundation sponsored Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia 2014 Conference

The Tin Ka Ping Foundation, founded by Dr. Tin Ka Ping, GBM, MBE, Honorary Trustee of the HKBU Foundation, sponsored the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia (HERDSA) 2014 Conference which is being held at HKBU on 7-10 July. The Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning of HKBU co-hosts the conference with the HERDSA Hong Kong Branch. An Opening Session officiated by Mr. Sam Tin (fourth from right), Chairman of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation which is the Diamond Sponsor of the HERDSA 2014 Conference, and representatives of the co-organisers was held on 8 July. This annual conference is well received by around 350 delegates from 18 countries and regions and serves as a platform to promote the development of higher education around the world.



Six Foundation Members received honours from the HKSAR Government

Six HKBU Foundation members were included in this year's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive Honours List in recognition of their significant contribution to Hong Kong and dedicated public and community service.

Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS)
 
Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, GBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors, Co-Chairman of the Enrepreneur Committee and Honorary Permanent President, was awarded the GBS for his long and distinguished public and community service, particularly his dedicated service to the Kowloon City community and his sterling efforts in uniting Guangdong clansmen to serve the community. During his tenure as the Chairman of Kowloon City District Council from 2004 to 2011, he made significant contributions to district administration and the sustainable development of Kowloon City District. As a successful entrepreneur, he has also devoted much effort to the development of the construction sector in Hong Kong. He is currently Chairman & CEO of Kum Shing Group.
 
Dr. Albert Hung Chao Hong, GBS, JP, Honorary Permanent President, was awarded the GBS for his long and meritorious community service, particularly his dedication to the promotion of sports development and cultural activities in Hong Kong. Holding senior positions in various prominent sports organisations, Dr. Hung made significant contributions in promoting major sports events in Hong Kong and in fostering sports exchange programmes between Hong Kong and the Mainland. He is a longstanding supporter of cultural programmes and has contributed to promoting music events in Hong Kong. He is currently President of Goldpoly Asia Limited.
 
Dr. Jonathan Choi Koon Shum, GBS, JP, Permanent Honorary President and Standing Committee Member of The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Honorary President, was awarded the GBS for his meritorious public and community service over the years, particularly his exemplary effort in encouraging enterprises, through collaborations with the government and welfare organisations, to care for the disadvantaged and to foster social harmony. Dr. Choi made significant contributions in promoting the interest of the trade and industry sector and Hong Kong's economic ties with the Mainland and foreign countries, as well as providing invaluable advice to the government on policies and directions for the development of small and medium enterprises. He is currently Chairman of Sun Wah Group.
 
Silver Bauhinia Star (SBS)
 

 
Mr. William Au Weng Hei, SBS, JP, Sponsoring Member, was awarded the SBS for his dedicated and distinguished public and community service over the years, particularly his outstanding contributions to the education sector and the promotion of art and cultural development in Hong Kong. He is currently Chairman of Hop Ying International Holdings Ltd.
 

 
Dr. Stanley Lau Chin Ho, SBS, MH, JP, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee and Sponsoring Member, was awarded the SBS for his distinguished public and community service, particularly his outstanding contributions to the formulation of labour policies and promotion of employer-employee relations. He has made exemplary efforts in serving the Labour Advisory Board and the Standard Working Hours Committee. He is currently Managing Director of Renley Watch Manufacturing Company Limited.
 
Medal of Honour (MH)
 
Mr. Lam Fung Lam, MH, Senior Member, was awarded the MH for his outstanding and dedicated community service in Central and Western District, particularly his contribution to the well-being of the less privileged and new arrivals. He is currently Chief Secretary of Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations.



Ronald Lu & Partners won international architectural awards

Ronald Lu & Partners, led by Dr. Ronald Lu, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, has received the BCI Asia Top 10 Architects Award for ten consecutive years. It is the only local architectural firm winning the prestigious title every year. In addition, its Zero Carbon Building Project and the China Resources Building also won the "Grand Award - Hong Kong Non-Residential (New Building) Category" and the "Grand Award - Hong Kong Building (Renovation/Revitalisation) Category" respectively in the Quality Building Award 2014.
