Naming Ceremony of Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Association Activity Centre
19 March 2014

The University recently received from the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association a generous donation of HK$3 million, of which HK$2 million was designated for the establishment of the "Service Learning Student Activities Fund" to encourage students' participation in service learning activities and HK$1 million in support of the clinical research project on the efficacy of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in the treatment of dementia launched by the School of Chinese Medicine.  In recognition of the Association's generosity, the activity rooms located on the 6th floor of Oen Hall Building (East Wing) on the Ho Sin Hang Campus were named the "Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Association Activity Centre". The centre not only serves as a hub of student activities, but also provides a venue for hosting a wide range of events for the benefit of the entire University community.

A naming ceremony officiated by Mr. So Chung Ping, MH, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association; Mr. Lam Cho Kwong, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Association; Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Dr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation; and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 19 March 2014.

At the ceremony, Professor Albert Chan expressed his gratitude to the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association for providing steadfast support to the University over the years.  Apart from supporting HKBU in setting up the "Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association Scholarship", the Association had provided space for the School of Continuing Education to establish a learning centre and collaborated with the University in running a Chinese Medicine Specialty Centre on its premises.  Moreover, the Association has been supportive to HKBU in establishing the first Chinese medicine teaching hospital in Hong Kong. The recent donation made by the Association would help further promote whole person education at HKBU and advance the treatment of dementia with Chinese medicine.

In his speech, Mr. So Chung Ping said that the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association has been supporting the development of HKBU for many years. It particularly appreciated the teaching, research and clinical service of the School of Chinese Medicine.  He hoped that through this donation, the Association could contribute to higher education and Chinese medicine treatment and continuously work with the University to nurture talent for the benefit of society. He also wished for the success of HKBU in acquiring the former Lee Wai Lee campus site for the establishment of the Chinese medicine teaching hospital to promote the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.

The ceremony was well attended by over 140 distinguished guests, including Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Guangdong Community Organisations and Vice-Chairman of the HKBU Foundation; The Hon. Tommy Cheung Yu Yan, SBS, JP, Member of the Legislative Council; Mr. Chung Kong Mo, JP, Chairman of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council; Mr. Tommy Yu Tat Chung, District Commander (Yau Tsim) of the Hong Kong Police Force; Mr. Bernard Wu, Honorary Member of the Court of HKBU; Dr. Cecil Chan, member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; Dr. Liu Hon Fai, JP, member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation; Honorary Permanent Presidents, Honorary Presidents and members of the Executive and Supervisory Committees of the Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association; as well as supporters and staff members of HKBU.
