The University recently received a generous donation of HK$5 million from Consun Pharmaceutical Group Limited for the establishment of the "Consun Chinese Medicines Research Centre for Renal Diseases" to support the project on research and development of Chinese medicines for the prevention and treatment of renal diseases conducted by the School of Chinese Medicine. In recognition of the donor's generosity, an agreement signing and cheque presentation ceremony, officiated by Mr. An Yubao, Chairman and Executive Director of Consun Pharmaceutical Group Limited, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 5 February 2015.
In his speech, Professor Albert Chan expressed his sincere gratitude to the Consun Pharmaceutical Group for its tremendous support. He looked forward to receiving continuous guidance from the Group to enhance the research performance in Chinese medicine at HKBU so as to develop more effective medicines for the renal disease patients for the well-being of our society.
Guests and representatives of HKBU attending the ceremony included Professor Zhu Quan, Executive Director and Chief Scientist, Mr. Gao Haien, Board Secretary and Joint Company Secretary, and Mr. Yau Chi Ming, Joint Company Secretary of Consun Pharmaceutical Group Limited; Dr. Zheng Zhaoguang, Deputy General Manager of Guangzhou Consun Pharmaceutical Research Company Limited; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development); Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine; Dr. Yu Zhiling, Associate Director of the Technology Development Division and Associate Professor of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of Chinese Medicine; Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement; and Mrs. Helen Tsang, Head of the Secretariat of the School of Chinese Medicine. After the ceremony, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee and Professor Albert Chan co-hosted a lunch for the guests at Shiu Pong Hall and invited the guests to visit the newly established "Consun Chinese Medicines Research Centre for Renal Diseases".
