The Thanksgiving Reception of the Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation (HKBUF) was held on 18 January 2011 to express our appreciation for the support of Foundation members. The Reception was officiated by Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor. It was also well attended by about 100 members of the Board of Governors, members of the Foundation and staff, including Ir Dr. K.K. Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee; Mr. Joseph Lee, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr. William Leung, BBS, JP, Treasurer of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Alumni Committee; Mr. William Hui, member of the Board of Governors; Vice-Presidents, Associate Vice-Presidents and Deans. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all members of the Board of Governors, the Alumni Committee and the Entrepreneur Committee for their leadership, and members of the Foundation for their continued support and contribution to the University. In his speech, Mr. Wilfred Wong highlighted that HKBU was ranked the world's 111th best university by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010-11 last year and he expressed his wish to see HKBU's ranking move up to the top 100 during his tenure as Council Chairman. Mr. Wong was glad that HKBU has raised more than HK$142 million in 2009-10 and the Foundation has doubled the number of members to 272 since its establishment. Mr. Wong said that HKBUF is eager to build on this growing momentum and has set itself the target of raising HK$155 million as a birthday gift to the University in celebrating its 55th anniversary in 2011. To express the University's gratitude to the Directors, Honorary Directors and Honorary Vice-Presidents of the Foundation, Mr. Wong and Professor Chan presented them with Foundation Certificates at the Reception. |
