The University recently received a generous donation of HK$2 million from Lam Woo Foundation Limited designated for the establishment of the "Lam Woo Foundation Senior Reporters-in-Residence Scheme" by the Institute for Journalism and Society under the School of Communication. Under the Scheme, local and overseas senior reporters will be invited to visit the University each year to host a series of activities such as class sharing sessions, keynote speeches, seminars and public lectures. In recognition of the donor's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Mr. Timothy Lam and Dr. Samuel Lam, Directors of Lam Woo Foundation Limited, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, was held on 28 March 2013. Attending the ceremony were Mrs. Mary Lam, Mrs. Ellen Lam, Mr. Timothy Lam Jr., Professor Huang Yu, Dean of Communication designate, Mr. Chris Yeung, News Director of Economic Journal, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement. The Lam Woo Foundation Senior Reporters-in-Residence Scheme aims to enable senior reporters from all over the world to have a better understanding of the journalism education in Hong Kong. It also aims to enhance the knowledge base of students and teaching staff in Hong Kong on the operation of news and media production through the sharing of experience by the seasoned reporters. It is hoped that these activities will enrich the content and perspectives of journalism education, thus fostering the sustainable development of the profession. The Scheme was launched on 25 March 2013 with Mr. Chris Yeung, News Director of Hong Kong Economic Journal, being the first guest speaker. |
