China Fortune Foundation has recently pledged a donation of HK$3.5 million to Hong Kong Baptist University in support of its institutional advancement. HK$2.28 million of the donation will be designated to the Advanced Institute for Contemporary China Studies for its projects, seminars and publications; HK$1.1 million will fund a research project and seminar of the School of Chinese Medicine and HK$120,000 will go towards activities organised by the Department of Music. In recognition of the Foundation's generous support, the University held the Cheque Presentation Ceremony for the Donation by the China Fortune Foundation on campus on 3 May 2010. The officiating guests were Mr. Lee Yu Leung, Chairman of the China Fortune Foundation; Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation and Chairman of the Council and the Court; and Professor Ng Ching Fai, GBS, President and Vice-Chancellor. In his speech, Professor Ng expressed his gratitude to the Foundation for its support to the University. He also commended the Foundation's three founders, Mr. Lee Yu-leung, Mr. Tony Wong Kam-fat and Mr. Peter Fu Yiu-man, for their vision and their contributions to the development of the Motherland through the social network and capital they have built in the business sector. Professor Ng said the Foundation has already extended support to several University projects and the donation from the Foundation recognises the University's Whole Person Education ethos. Mr. Lee Yu-leung said the Foundation is very supportive of the broad-based, multidisplinary and creative education ethos of HKBU which aims to nurture the leaders of tomorrow with an international perspective. The collaboration between the Foundation and HKBU not only achieves their common goal hand-in-hand but also builds an effective platform for both parties to enhance the mission of nurturing talent. Guests present at the ceremony included the representatives and friends of China Fortune Foundation, supporters and friends of HKBU, Court and Council members, members of the Board of Governors of Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation, as well as staff and students of the University. |
