| Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation Thanksgiving Reception | | 08 February 2010 | | |  | The Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation (HKBUF) Thanksgiving Reception was held on 8 February 2010 to express our appreciation for the support of Foundation members and to celebrate the first anniversary of the establishment of HKBUF.
The Reception was well received by about 100 members of the Board of Governors, members of the Foundation and staff, including Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Board of Governors; Dr. Ronald Lu, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors; Ir Peter Wong, SBS, JP, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors and Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee; Mr. William Leung, BBS, JP, Treasurer of the Board of Governors and Chairman of the Alumni Committee; Dr. John Chan, Co-Chairman of the Entrepreneur Committee; Professor Ng Ching-Fai, GBS, President and Vice-Chancellor; Vice-Presidents, Associate Vice-Presidents and Deans.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Ng Ching-Fai expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all members of the Board of Governors, the Alumni Committee and the Entrepreneur Committee for their leadership, and members of the Foundation for their support and contribution to the University.
In his speech, Mr. Wilfred Wong highlighted the tremendous challenges facing Hong Kong's economy in the aftermath of the global financial tsunami. Yet, HKBUF's membership has grown steadily in its first year of existence, thanks to the support of the Foundation's Board of Governors as well as the Entrepreneur Committee and the Alumni Committee in reinforcing its ties with the community and alumni. As at the end of December 2009, the number of members has risen by an impressive 70% from 131 to 222, which is a most encouraging result.
Mr. Wong said that HKBUF is eager to build on this growing momentum in the coming years and has set itself the target of raising another $155 million as a timely gift to the University when it celebrates its 55th Anniversary in 2011.
To express the University's gratitude to the Directors, Honorary Directors and Honorary Vice-Presidents of HKBUF, Mr. Wong and Professor Ng presented them with Foundation Certificates at the Reception. A cake-cutting ceremony was also hosted by Mr. Wong and Professor Ng to celebrate the first anniversary of the Foundation, accompanied by members of the Board of Governors, such as Dr. Eric Li, OBE, JP and Mr. Zhang Da Peng, as well as Mr. Fung Sun Kwan, Honorary Permanent President of HKBUF. |
