To celebrate the conferment of honorary doctoral degrees, the University organises a series of activities entitled "Brilliance of Civilization" to enable the honorary doctors to share their wisdom with the general public. In this connection, Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, JP, recipient of the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws, delivered a public lecture on "EQ vs. IQ" on 20 November 2013, during which he shared his views on the key to success and how to overcome the weaknesses of human nature drawing on his wealth of life experience as a legal professional, entrepreneur and community leader. In his welcoming remarks, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Kennedy Wong for his distinguished contribution and staunch support to the University over the years. Dr. Wong has served on the University Council for three terms totalling nine years and has also served on various HKBU committees. In addition, he has generously donated towards the University in support of the establishment of the Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Endowed Chair of Chinese Medicine and the Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme. In his lecture, Dr. Wong said one's success is highly determined by one's level of EQ (emotional quotient). EQ is about the ability to discover oneself, to control emotions, to adjust oneself, and to communicate with different people by understanding their emotions, which is the key to achieving success. Dr. Wong advised youngsters to participate in community services so that they can enhance their EQ through getting along with people. To express the University's sincere appreciation, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, presented a memento to Dr. Wong for his great support and meaningful sharing. The public lecture was well received by the audience of nearly 180 guests, including friends of Dr. Kennedy Wong, community leaders, representatives from the commercial and professional associations, supporters of the University, the general public as well as members of the Council and the Court, staff and students of HKBU. |
