Visit by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce

A delegation of 29 members from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), led by Mr. Matthias Li, Chairman of the Manpower Committee, paid a visit to the University on 3 May 2013.

Founded in 1861, HKGCC is one of the oldest and largest business organisations in Hong Kong, with around 4,000 members. Its mission is to promote, represent and safeguard the interests of the Hong Kong business community. HKGCC plays an important role in promoting Hong Kong as an international business centre in Asia and acts as an international bridge, connecting Hong Kong business with Mainland China and the rest of the world.

Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to members of HKGCC for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit HKBU. The delegation was briefed on the uniqueness of  Whole Person Education at HKBU and the latest developments of the University. Professor Chan hoped that the delegation could have a better understanding of the University and looked forward to collaborating with HKGCC in nurturing talent for the community.

In his speech, Mr. Matthias Li said HKGCC puts much emphasis on human resources training for grooming future business leaders. It also supports HKBU in the provision of quality youth education and the enhancement of its teaching and research quality. He expressed his wish to take this opportunity to foster mutual understanding and explore the feasibility of future collaboration.

The visit began with an introduction to the development of the School of Business by Professor Stephen Cheung, BBS, JP, Dean of Business. The guests then visited the Academy of Film and the School of Chinese Medicine. They were warmly received by Mr. Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary; Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, Associate Dean of Chinese Medicine; Mr. Joel Lam, Senior Lecturer of the Academy of Film; and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement. A lunch was hosted by Professor Chan after the visit.
