The University previously received a generous donation from Ms. Elizabeth Law, MH, Managing Director of Park Hotel Property Management Limited, in support of the establishment of the Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials, which aims at fostering the University's research development of advanced materials and reinforcing its academic leadership in this field. Professor Raymond Wong Wai Yeung, currently Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry at HKBU, was appointed to this Endowed Chair at a conferment ceremony held on 21 April 2015. The ceremony was officiated by Ms. Elizabeth Law, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Elizabeth Law for her generosity. He also appreciated Ms. Law for her dedication to serving the community and her tremendous contribution to education, especially to the development of HKBU. In her speech, Ms. Elizabeth Law said she was glad to have witnessed the recently remarkable achievements of HKBU and she hoped that the establishment of the Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials could further advance the University's research and academic activities for the benefit of the community.

Following an introduction to the academic achievements and contributions of the Founding Endowed Chair of Advanced Materials by Professor Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic), Professor Raymond Wong delivered his inaugural lecture entitled "Go Green! Get and Save Energy with Advanced Materials". The lecture highlighted the importance of advanced materials in the development of organic optoelectronics.

The ceremony cum lecture was well attended by about 100 guests, including family members and friends of Ms. Elizabeth Law; Mrs. Doreen Chan, Treasurer of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Treasurer of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation; Mr. Ivan Wong, Court Member of HKBU; Mr. Bernard Wu, Honorary Court Member of HKBU; Dr. Simon Suen, JP and Mrs. Mary Suen, Honorary Permanent Presidents of the HKBU Foundation; Mr. and Mrs. So Kai Sing, Honorary Presidents of the HKBU Foundation; as well as staff, students, supporters and friends of HKBU.
