The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, designated for the "Dr. Sun Yat-sen Research Fund" of the Department of History to promote academic activities and research in relation to the great revolutionary forerunner, Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
 
In recognition of the Foundation's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Dr. Tan Siu Lin (fourth from left), Chairman of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and the Sun Yat-sen Education and Charity Foundation, Mr. Chan Kam Lit (third from left), Vice Chairman of the Sun Yat-sen Education and Charity Foundation, Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, was held on 26 May 2014. 

Guests and HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Mr. Li Hexie (second from left), Secretary General of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Mr. Christopher Ho (first from right), Director of Chairman's Office, Luen Thai International Group, Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences, Professor Mak King Sang, Head of the Department of History, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.  After the ceremony, Professor Chan hosted a lunch for the guests at Shiu Pong Hall.

The "Dr. Sun Yat-sen Research Fund" was established in 2009 with a generous donation of HK$1 million from Dr. Tan Siu Lin through Luen Thai International Group.  The donation has supported the University in organising academic conferences, exchange activities and publishing scholarly books, etc.  The Tan Siu Lin Foundation also donated HK$100,000 in 2012 to the Department of History for purchasing databases for studying the history of the late Qing dynasty and modern China so as to advance the research work about Dr. Sun Yat-sen's life and contributions.
