The University recently received a generous pledge of HK$3 million from the Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation, designated for the establishment of the "Hung Leung Hau Ling Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition Perpetual Fund". The Fund will support the Faculty of Arts to organise the Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition which aims to arouse the interest of young people in writing and enhance the creative writing environment.

In recognition of the Foundation's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Ms. Belinda Hung (fourth from right), Director of the Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation, Ms. Hung Lai Sum (centre), Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Professor Robinson Douglas, Dean of Arts, was held on 28 May 2014.  Guests and HKBU representatives attending the ceremony included Ms. Susanna Chow (third from right), Professor Frank Fu, MH, JP, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation, Ms. Wu Yin Ching and Dr. Chu Siu Cheung, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer respectively of the Language Centre, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement. Professor Chan hosted a lunch for the guests after the ceremony.

The Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition is held biennially. A "Teenage Writers Award" is also presented to outstanding secondary school student writers with the aim of promoting the spirit of literary creativity to secondary schools and encouraging students to write creatively.
