The University received a generous donation of HK$10 million from Dr. Kennedy Wong, BBS, DCL, JP, Managing Partner of Philip K.H. Wong, Kennedy Y.H. Wong & Co., in support of the establishment of the Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Endowed Chair of Chinese Medicine. Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of Chinese Medicine, was appointed to this Endowed Chair at a conferment ceremony on 16 May 2012. Officiating guests were Dr. Kennedy Wong; Mr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court and Chairman of the HKBU Foundation; and Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor. Professor Albert S.C. Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kennedy Wong for his dedication to serving the community and his tremendous contribution to the education sector, especially to HKBU. In his speech, Dr. Kennedy Wong touched upon his service to HKBU which began in 1998. He said he had witnessed the history and development of the School of Chinese Medicine and hoped that under the leadership of the Dean, Professor Lu Aiping, the School, with its brilliant talent and international platform, could scale new heights by offering more Chinese medicine products of high quality to benefit the community at large. Following an Introduction to the Founding Endowed Chair of Chinese Medicine by Prof. Franklin Luk, Vice-President (Academic), Professor Lu Aiping delivered his inaugural lecture entitled “Wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Complexity of Modern Disease”. The ceremony and lecture were well-attended by about 200 guests of Dr. Kennedy Wong, including his parents, Dr. Philip Wong, GBS, JP and Mrs. Philip Wong, Dr. Mung Kin Keung, Chairman of Hong Kong Airlines Ltd., and Mr. Eric Tsang, Worldwide Spokesperson of 3D-GOLD's Corporate Gifts, as well as supporters and friends of HKBU, such as Mr. So Chung Ping, Chairman of Tsim Sha Tsui District Kaifong Welfare Association; Ms Delia Chan, Managing Director of Famous Horse Garment Factory Ltd.; and Mr. Li Ying Sang, Tommy, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Industry Association. Members of the Council and the Court, staff and students of the University also attended the event, which was followed by a dinner in honour of Dr. Kennedy Wong. |
