Launching Ceremony of the Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme cum Public Lecture on "Simple Can Be Harder Than Complex" by Professor Jeffrey Cheung

Hong Kong Baptist University has received a generous donation of HK$10 million from Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong, BBS, JP, Managing Partner of Philip K.H. Wong, Kennedy Y.H. Wong & Co., in support of the establishment of the Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme, which aims at promoting international academic exchange and strengthening HKBU's status in the international academic arena. A launching ceremony officiated by Dr. Kennedy Wong, Mr. Cheng Yan Kee, JP, Chairman of the Council and the Court, Dr. Wilfred Wong, SBS, JP, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation, and Professor Albert S.C. Chan, JP, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held on 17 February 2014.

In his address, Professor Albert Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Kennedy Wong for his steadfast support to local and overseas education, especially to the development of HKBU. He also praised Dr. Wong for his tremendous contributions to the community and devotion to public service. Professor Chan composed a couplet for presentation to Dr. Wong as a token of appreciation.

Dr. Kennedy Wong has shared deep associations and friendship with HKBU for many years. He has served on the Council and various committees of HKBU since 2002. Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Wong said he had witnessed the remarkable development of HKBU and hoped that the establishment of the Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Distinguished Visiting Professorship Scheme could enhance internationalisation in the University and advance its research and academic activities for the benefit of the community.

After the ceremony, Professor Jeffrey Cheung, the first visiting professor of the Scheme, delivered a public lecture entitled "Simple Can Be Harder Than Complex". Inspired by this famous quote by Mr. Steve Jobs, the late Apple Inc. founder, who was renowned for pursuing simplicity, excellence and perfection, Professor Cheung explored the meaning of the quote with interesting examples from daily life and various fields including music, art and science.

The ceremony and lecture were well attended by about 100 guests including Mr. Brandon Liu, JP, Member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, Dr. Dennis Ng, BBS, MH, Member of the Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, Mr. Stephen Tan, Executive Director of Asia Financial Holdings Ltd., Ms. Delia Chan, Managing Director of Famous Horse Garment Factory Ltd., as well as staff, students, supporters and friends of HKBU.
